Issues of Drinking Water

APGSS vs. OHS school communities

Let the truth be told, at Overbrook we can't drink from water fountains because of longtime issues with the plumbing system. At Archbishop Porter Girls' thy too cannot drink water from the spigots, although a new water plant was opened the day I arrived to Takoradi. The water plant will generate enough drinking water for the 1600 girls and will someday supply other nearby schools at a cost.

At OHS, we can't even bring water bottles into the building because students throw water at one another. Our school was built in 1924, students have no drinking water.

At APGSS, which opened only 48 years ago, girls are now privileged in having drinking water in sachets, a small plastic pouch containing processed water.

Thinking about your prior thoughts of who had it the best, now what do you think?

Tell me what u think about the differences as similarities. Notice the Atlantic Ocean in the horizon from a skyline view in Takoradi.

  2. Comment: Water can be purify when it's boiled. For the girls at Arch bishop high were they allowed to boiled the water in their home economic class for drinking. Since in American you would have to wait until you're home because home economics is not taugh at overbrook high school.

Question: Were the girls allowed on the computers to socialize with family and friends far away from them.

Fact: Every second, the urban population grows by two people

  3. Comment : The Girls school had it best because now they can drink water and in our school we have to drink from bottles.

Question : Is this a picture of the school you were referring to?

  4. To see that these girls are given the privilege to have drinking says a lot for Overbrook students. It not only speaks as an aspect of responsibility; it speaks as an apsect of trust. The girls over in Ghana seem like they have a stronger discipline. Moreover, it speaks a lot on the concept of having a strict ettiquette. If the teachers show a strong a strong contempt for their students, then they perform better.

Question: Are there any priveleges that Ghanaian women view as a rarity?

Fact: Ghanaians are made up of many ethnic groups. Some of these groups include the Akans, Mole- Dagbon, Ewes, and the Ga- Adangbes just to name a few, with the Akans being the majority.

  5. Comment: (Eugene) i agree with you the students in Ghana do seem more disciplined than from the students in America at Overbrook high school. For them to have water to drink during hot days to them is a great thing but here in America we take Advantage of things like that.

Question: Do they have allowance ? or places where they can go to hang out ?

Fact:Ghana remains heavily dependent on international financial and technical assistance. Gold, timber, and cocoa production are major sources of foreign exchange.

  6. Comment: i think that they should have a donation place where they can put money on a machince so that they can purify their water so that the schools and houses can have drinkable water and not have to spend money on bags of water.

Question: How much would a machine that can purify water in ghanna cost?

    (MISTER.T)

Fact:Ghana is divided into small groups that together speak more than 50 languages.

  7. I think that APGSS have it worst than us at Overbrook. One reason why is that we at Overbrook sneak water bottles at school so we will have something to drrink. The girls at APGSS live on campus so they have no water in school or out of school.

How much are water in sachets?

Ghana is one of West Africa's most popluar tourist destinations.

  8. Comment: Students in Ghana are well disciplined, so APGSS doesn't have to worry about students throwing water at one another. They earned the right to be able to bring water to their school. Overbrook students on the other hand aren't well disciplined and therefore get treated as if they are children.

Question: How much does water cost in Ghana?

Fact: Ghana celebrates boxing on December 26.
